It is mainly by exit of some junior physicians who were looking for much better working conditions in institutions were caused by re-structuring of the National Health Care and its system in year 2003.

It is University Hospital and known as (H.U.C) hospital in Coimbra. It belongs to Faculty of Medicines of University of Combra. It is the complex that is known as center of research having broad range of the clinical services as well as some medical specialties. In early days of hospital, it was used for function in 2 separated building that can trace back to 16 th century; it is the part and belongs to College of St Jerome, it begun in 1560s.

In year 1836 hospital was handed over to University of Coimbra, 12 years later, some departments of hospital were also transferred there, it was known as Hospital of St Jerome. Many feature witness its history, gateway of hospital built in middle of 18 th century that used to serve as main entrance to hospital and great staircase that was soon built afterwards. Second building of Royal College belonged to Society of the Jesus that was begun in early 1568. High school was also installed in building in late 1836, and some departments of hospital were also transferred here. Hospital is highly admired by government of Portugal and other private institutes; collage build is used to serve children education in health and other sectors.
